Dropping the illusion of security


I just came back from a trip to Panama where we toured the country for a week or so, then spent the last few days in a small town outside of Panama City where the major activity was relaxation. There wasn´t a lot to do there, which was perfect after a full week of touring. We read, soaked up the heat and sun and found a tiny Irish Pub that served cold drinks and good fish and chips.

It was impossible to sit at the picnic tables outside of Mick´s Pub without running into an assortment of expats from around the world. It was fascinating to talk to so many people who had left their homes and jobs to move to Panama. There was a Minnesota couple who had retired there ten years ago (while in their 40s), a couple from Australia who had sold their home, car and everything else they owned, bought a 35 foot sailboat and were sailing around the world, a guy from San Francisco who seemed to not quite remember why he was there at all...and many more. And, of course there was Mick, a gregarious Irish man who had decided what Panama needed was a genuine Irish pub in the middle of nowhere.

I spent a lot of time fantasizing about what it would feel like to join them. What does it take, I wondered, to up and leave your country, your home, your job, family and friends and move to a new world? I was especially in awe of the people who sold everything to travel the world in a small boat. They had no plans and no agenda, and intended to stay that way until their money ran out. (they had been sailing for four years.) How, I pondered, do people find the courage to live with such insecurity?

The common factor of all the stories seemed to be a comfortableness with living in the now with no promise about what tomorrow might hold. To be an expat you need to be able to go with the flow and accept whatever comes your way. Then I realized that is exactly what ALL life here on earth is about. Perhaps expats are simply more aware than we are that all of life is insecure, no matter where you are.

An expatriate (in abbreviated form, expat) is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of the person's upbringing. That makes us all expats on a visit to Earth. We left the security of the spirit realm to come to a world where there are no promises about anything except that we will eventually die and return home. Many of us, me included, try very hard to create the illusion of security while on earth. We want to believe that our jobs, our relationships, our family and our government will always be there for us, even when we know, in our hearts, that everything changes all the time.

Perhaps the real lesson of 2012 will be that the illusion of security will be dropped from our eyes and hearts and we will realize that we are all visitors, sailing this world in a small boat (body) and living day to day with no agenda except learning to be joyful.

After a lot of discussion, we decided the ex-pat life is not for us...at least not yet. I hope though, that I can remember and recreate the feeling of living each day as an adventure with no agenda and no promises except that everything happens in the now.

A gathering of like minds

The intuitive forum is open to anyone searching for a safe and nurturing place to discuss and learn metaphysical, spiritual and personal growth topics. There will also be a table where cards, brochures, etc. can be placed so that we can create a community of like minded individuals. The cost is $20 per person and no registration is necessary. It is at the United Church of Christ in Maple Grove, MN.

On February 10th we will be hosting a Healers´ Round Table
This panel of healers will discuss a few common holistic methods and explain the primary concepts and differences between them. This is a fun topic- and important, as well. For anyone who suffers from a chronic condition, the information may even be life-changing. The panel will take questions. A short community healing will also be included.

As always, Kathryn and her guides the Light Collective will be on hand for the last hour. We will take questions from the audience who will receive channeled answers from the Light Collective.

This is on a first come, first serve basis and is free for people who attend the forum. Intuitive Mastery Circles

These circles are facilitated by trained graduates of my Intuitive Mastery group. They are held at various locations around the Twin Cities so that you can find a time and place that is convenient for you.
All circles are run under my supervision, with the facilitator being trained and given suggestions for various topics and exercises. The facilitator, is, of course, able to add her or his personal expertise.

The general format will be a time of "checking in" and meeting, followed by an intuitive practice exercise and then a time of recapping and discussion.

The cost of the circles is $20 per session and is payable to the facilitator.
