One Thing a Day
I have written many times about my struggles with balance and schedules. The older I get the more solitude and quiet I seem to need. Ironically, I also seem to be more in demand than I have ever been.

So, a few months ago I began to experiment with what I am calling the "one thing a day" rule. What I decided to do was to limit myself to only writing one thing per day on my calendar. This does not mean that I can't DO more than one thing per day. It only means that I can only SCHEDULE one thing.

It has been an interesting experience and a commitment I have not always been able to follow. For example, it means that if I have a social event scheduled for an evening, I can't meet a client on that day.
Or, if I have a lunch planned, I need to keep the evening free.

After (mostly) following this plan for a few months I can report that it isn't easy but that my life flows much better. When I have lunch with a friend I don't have to rush off for an appointment. When I teach an evening class I have all day to write. And, I have time to take walks, do laundry and read without feeling like I am stealing minutes from some other task.

The most unusual thing about this plan is that it actually does not seem to affect my income dramatically. I can teach a class all day if I wish. I also now have the time to do some of the other writing and web site chores that seem to always be pushed back by the urgent events that pop up.

What it has done is make me ask myself: "is this thing important enough to deserve to be written on my calendar?" It has forced me to ask what I really want to do and what I must do, and then eliminate a lot of things that don't fit into either of those two categories.

So, how many days did I violate my rule? Reviewing my calendar for the last 2 months, I have 9 days with multiple entries. (including one day with 3 things!) I am rather proud of that. It means I actually kept to my own rule for 51 days. (more or less)

I am not suggesting that you all jump on this bandwagon, although if your life would allow it, why not try it for a few months? All you have to lose is your overscheduled life.

The Violet Generation
A new book to be published by Llewellyn Worldwide
I am pleased to tell you that I have just signed a contract to write a book with the working title "The Violet Generation." For several years I have been exploring the concept that psychic abilities increase with age. The premise of this book is that our life experiences, particularly those such as death of a child or spouse, significant illness, loss of a job or lifestyle etc., prompt us to examine our lives and open ourselves to our inherent psychic ability. I also believe that this emerging psychic ability allows the older adult to better cope with the challenges of aging. And lastly, I know that these abilities are given to us so that we can aid society by becoming wise and psychic elders, shamans, leaders and crones.

The Intuitive Forum is all about Creating Community

The intuitive forum is open to anyone searching for a safe and nurturing place to discuss and learn metaphysical, spiritual and personal growth topics.
